Kathmandu. Liu Jianchao, head of the International Department of China’s ruling Communist Party (CPC) and a senior politician, has been detained for questioning, according to The Wall Street Journal. However, there has been no official confirmation from China regarding this matter.

According to the Wall Street Journal report, 61-year-old Liu was taken into custody for questioning by authorities at the end of July after returning to Beijing from a foreign trip.

Liu has been considered a potential future Foreign Minister of China. He is also regarded as a close ally of President Xi Jinping.
